Signs Of Head Trauma How many times have you bumped your head, on something, and yes it hurt, but not enough to see a physician. One never knows the damage that may be caused when we just get a bump on the head. there are about 2 milllion head injuries each year. About 500.000 require hospitalization. They two types of head trauma, closed wound, and penetrating, can both be damaging. A open skull wound is when something breaks through the skull, and enter the brain area. A closed head injury can cause damage to the nerves. If there is a loss of consiciuosness, there is cause for concern. No matter how long the period is for, you should be checked by a doctor. Because a closed head injury is just what is is, and just because you don't see blood flowing out of your head; doesn't mean there might not be damage. Some signs of head trauma is: With children, if they have bumped their head, and are showing signs of not walking normally, or complains of neck, and head pain, or keeps on crying.
- loss of consiciousness
- drowsiness
- blurred vision
- bleeding or swelling
- dizziness and confusion
- nausea and vomiting
- headache
- any fluids coming from ears, nose, and eyes with dark circles
- Numbness in the arms and legs
It is important to know that if a head injury occurs, monitor the person, for at least 24 hours, and don't let them go right to sleep. Seek medical attention if any of these symptoms persist.
